Ever had a day
Where you spent it all
Chasing foxes out of your garden,
Only to drop into bed exhausted
Wondering, “What did I do today?”

I spent a lot of time chasing foxes today, and a couple of goats out of the house. But still managed to come back around to focus on what is imortant.
I spent about three hours today sitting with a pair of young cotton tails who I am trying to tame into nice house pets. Am I nuts? It’s very calming to sit still and let them run over my feet. Also they make nice art models. But I still might be crazy…
All of us would probably prefer our beautiful gardens were not marred by the deer, the rabbits, ground squirrels, etc. – yesterday we had a young Bob Cat – but maybe we could consider the fertilizer they deposit as our exchange for a few leafs here and there. After all, what is the better story, the perfect flowers, or seeing the beautiful family of deer hanging in our front yards. If you don’t want the deer, plant rosemary.
Speaking metaphorically we can say the same about life and its troubles.
Now there is a metaphor right there. The deer seem to laugh at fences, in our area. It is stunning how they are able to bound over most barriers or compress their bodies through the tiniest gap in a fence moving at a sprinting speed. I have been amazed at their agility for being such a huge animal. But aromatic rosemary as a barrier! Or a friendly Bob Cat? That is an entirely different kind of boundary!
