For me, to not garden is not an option. I garden for my sanity. I garden for my table. I garden for beauty. So in a drought year, how do I make the best use of a thimble-full of water? STRAW. With seeds tucked in under the soil, drip lines run across the topsoil, and straw covering everything, I was able to sprout my whole garden with very little water. Then, once there were little sprouts, I moved the straw back from them but made sure any empty soil was completely covered with straw. And bonus–NO WEEDING!!!
Drought in life, both literal and metaphorical, can drive us to creative solutions. What creative innovations have sprouted to help you use your thimble-full of water during times of drought?
